Yamaka Plum Orchard is a plum picking farm located in Okuyama, Hikisa Town.
Approximately 120 plum trees are planted, and a variety of plums ranging from small plums to Nanko plums can be harvested.
Visitors can take home their own harvested plums by weight, which can be processed into pickled plums, plum wine, plum sours, and other products.
Ume varieties and harvest time
Generally, the ume harvest season is from June to July.
The period from February, when ume flowers bloom, to early May, when the fruit is ripe.
However, the harvest time may vary depending on the growth conditions of the fruit, so it is recommended to check in advance.
Plum Picking Experience Details
Yamaka Plum Garden's 1,800-tsubo (1,860 m2) plum orchard has many varieties of plum trees, including small, medium, large, and Nanko plum trees.
The ume harvest season starts on May 20 for small ume, ends in June for medium ume, and ends in June for large ume.
Ume plums picked by hand can be sold by weight and taken home. We recommend small plums for pickled plums and medium or large plums for plum wine or plum sour.
How to harvest plums
Plums can be harvested either by hand when the fruit is fully ripe or by shaking the branches to drop them.
When making umeshu (plum wine) or umeboshi (pickled plums), it is best to choose large, medium or large plums that are fully ripe.

How to make pickled plums and plum wine
At Yamaka Plum Garden, after picking plums, visitors can make pickled plums and plum wine with the plums they have harvested themselves.
Small plums are used for pickled plums, while medium and large plums are used for plum wine. The process is simple: just pickle the pickled plums with salt.
Umeshu (plum wine) is simply made by adding sugar, shochu, and plums and letting it sit for about a month.

The fee is in the form of purchasing plums picked by oneself by weight.
Reservations are also required in advance for the ume picking experience.

Opening Hours and Directions
The park is open from 10:30 to 16:00, and admission is until 15:00.
The park is closed in case of rain, and reservations must be made by contacting the park.
Access by private car is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Hamamatsu and 10 minutes from the Hamamatsu-Higashi Interchange.
By public transportation, take the "Hikisa Line" of the Hamakita-Kita Ward Community Bus, get off at the Hikisa-Toge (Yamago) bus stop, and walk about 20 minutes.
