If you are looking for an easy way to experience a tropical resort in Shizuoka, Atami Sun Beach is the place to go.

The beach is about a 10-minute walk from Atami Station, and a sandy beach stretches out before your eyes.

Atami Sun Beach

Atami is located near Tokyo in Shizuoka Prefecture, so it takes about an hour and a half to get there from Tokyo on the JR Tokaido Line.

Walk from the station through the shopping district and down the hill.

On the way, there is a famous pudding shop among the locals.

It is delicious and you should try it.

And when you reach the bottom of the slope, a large ocean spreads out before you.

Between the beach and the road are many large palm trees, and the swaying of the palm trees in the sea breeze is a treat for both the ears and the eyes.

Bathing beach in summer

In summer, it is famous as a beach, and many people swim in the sea.

The ocean is clean, and if you are lucky, you can even spot fish swimming up to the shallows.

There are various people putting up parasols and tents.

The ocean is very fun to float and drift on floats because there are a few waves.

Drifting on the cold sea under the strong heat of the sun, it is pleasant to feel the hustle and bustle gradually fade away.

On summer nights, you can also see the sparkling, lively, and beautiful sea with people setting off fireworks.

For those who want to relax, long autumn nights

If you want to relax, the best time to do so is from evening to night around autumn.

As I watch the moon shift on the surface of the water and listen to the sound of the waves, a slightly chilly night breeze blows in.

It's a big place and it's hard to see people when it's off season.

Lying on the sandy beach and star gazing is also recommended.

I feel like my mind is being purified.

There are not many cars passing by, so you can be surrounded by the sound of the waves all around you.

Star gazing at Atami Shinsui Park

Nearby is Atami Shinsui Park.

The park is located next to the boat landing and has a path long enough to take a walk.

Benches are placed here and there so you can take a relaxing break.

moon terrace

Between Atami Sun Beach and Atami Shinsui Park, there is an open space called Moon Terrace, which protrudes slightly into the sea.

It is famous for its claim to be a sacred place for lovers, and a large objet d'art stands in the center.

All of these places can be reached on foot.

The view is very nice and you can feel the great nature.

Looking up toward the station from the coastline, one can see large mountains and the city center.

At night, the lights of the city center are very colorful and beautiful.

You will feel a strange sensation as if you have taken a step back from everyday life, as if you are drifting off somewhere.

The sea at night encompasses everything.

I used to stop by with my club mates on my way home from high school when I had something troubling, something I wanted to discuss, or something that was bothering me.

Taking a walk while listening to the sound of the ocean gave me a positive feeling that somehow I would try my best and make it work.

The sea at night is so quiet and wide and big that I feel like a tiny person.

A short walk away is a convenience store, so we would eat snacks on the beach and talk.

Whenever I was stuck on something, I would go by the sea.

Even when I got into a fight with a friend, I could honestly say I was sorry when we took a walk by the ocean together.

It would be very romantic if you go there with your girlfriend.

A walk along the coastline while holding hands is also recommended for two people.

Since there are so many hot springs in Atami, it is a good idea to stay at a hot spring inn.

After soaking in the hot springs, it is great to change into a yukata and take a walk to the ocean.

Atami has so many oceans and mountains, and they are so close together that you can feel the great outdoors just by wandering around the neighborhood.

Earlier I recommended the sea at night in autumn, but I also recommend the sea in the morning in winter.

Shizuoka Prefecture is one of the warmest prefectures in Japan, but the sea breezes in winter are still cold enough to cut you to the bone.

However, although the wind is cold, the temperature is not that cold, so it is not so cold that you freeze to the core.

The reason why I recommend the sea on a cold winter morning is because there are things you can only see at that time of the year.

In winter, stay at a hot spring inn and enjoy the sunrise.

In winter, the days are short and the sun is not very high even at about 6:00 AM.

The recommendation here is to go to the beach before 6:00 a.m. to watch the sunrise.

The view of the sea shining in the winter when the sun is still low in the sky is truly spectacular.

Winter is the season when something goes wrong, and many people's minds and bodies become sluggish.

At such times, when I come to watch the sunrise on a winter morning at the beach, the cold refreshing wind, the energetic sun, and the beautiful ocean push me back and give me the energy to live.

Of course, it is off-season, so we seldom see people.

You can monopolize the beautiful scenery of the winter sea to the fullest.

A walk from the beach to the terrace and to the park provides good exercise and allows you to feel close to both the mountains and the sea.

Recommended for all people who want to be healed, to feel refreshed, or to change their mind for a fresh start.
