Ten Years After My Husband Left the Workforce to Move to Shizuoka City: The Joy of a New Life Found in Shizuoka City

The conversation about moving to Shizuoka began when my husband quit his job and said, "I want to work with my friends in Shizuoka.

However, I had no connection to Shizuoka, so I was not very enthusiastic about it.

However, before moving to Shizuoka, I went to Shizuoka and lived in a hotel for about a week and started to visit various places and found them very attractive.

I was able to sense rather quickly that Shizuoka seemed to be a very comfortable place to live, and I had the impression that the people of Shizuoka are very laid-back and easygoing in a good way, and that many of them are kind and warm.

I was very impressed with the prefecture's people and whether or not it is a town with a friendly atmosphere, which was very important to me.

Before moving to this area, I lived in Niigata Prefecture, a so-called snow country, so I will also get to know the climatic comforts of the area.

First of all, it never snows.

I moved my residence to Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, although I had been informed that Shizuoka City "doesn't get snow at first" and that "Kazahana dances only once every few years,

For those of us from Niigata, this is truly unbelievable.

It has been about six months since I moved to Shizuoka in the spring, and this will be my first winter in Shizuoka Prefecture.

First of all, we had many sunny days, which is not possible in our hometown, and even going into winter, we had clear winter weather and were able to go out a lot on our days off.

I have never had such a warm winter in my life, so I spent many days not knowing exactly when to change my clothes.

Although it is cold, which is different from the local climate, it is not so cold that you have to wear a down coat, and the humidity is not that high, so I am very happy to be able to live comfortably and easily.

Shizuoka Prefecture has both oceans and mountains, and there are many restaurants in the downtown area, so it is not inconvenient to go shopping.

A bowl of rice topped with fresh shirasu is superb!

The ocean means that there is an abundance of delicious seafood, and the "fresh shirasu" and "fresh sakura shrimps," which are hard to find anywhere else, were particularly appealing.

A bowl of rice topped with fresh shirasu made with freshly caught shirasu is a must.

I used to dislike raw shirasu because of its fishy smell, but I overcame this problem when I moved to Shizuoka and discovered delicious raw shirasu.

Of course, eating sakura ebi as raw sakura ebi is delicious, but adults and children alike enjoy eating it when it is made into crispy kakiage (deep fried sakura ebi).

I am sure there are places where the food is good everywhere, but for me, the food in Shizuoka was to my liking.

Having compatible food tastes is very important for a place where we will live for a long time.

The character of Shizuoka people

The climate is pleasant, the food is delicious ...... and more importantly, the "character of Shizuoka people".

As I mentioned at the beginning, Shizuoka people are very laid back and easy going.

From an impatient person's point of view, some situations may be a little irritating.

However, among Shizuoka Prefecture residents, people don't seem to mind at all.

For example, in a convenience store or drugstore where there are only a few cash registers, there is a huge line for only one open register ...... and many people stand in line silently.

I had been stressing about this phenomenon for some time without getting used to it.

However, after 10 years of immigrating, it is strange that I don't feel anything now, but not to the point of irritation.

Another thing that surprised me about the people of Shizuoka Prefecture is that they are very tolerant at best and loose at worst.

Many are particularly loose with time.

It doesn't matter if it's at work or in my personal life, I don't always move on time.

It is expected to be 10 minutes late for a meeting. ...... The person who is late doesn't seem to take offense, and the person who was kept waiting doesn't get that angry.

They don't seem to be too bothered by it, not to say that they are not angry.

I don't think many people are bound by the idea of being on time.

This sounds bad, but it is evidence that Shizuoka Prefecture people are very warm and tolerant.

I wonder if growing up in a warm climate makes them grow up to be mild-mannered.

When taking cabs, the drivers are often friendly, and sometimes offer candy bars and oranges to women and children.

As someone who moved here from outside the prefecture, it is very warm and I feel as if I am a local.

The only inconvenience is

The only thing I find inconvenient about coming to Shizuoka is the fact that it is so far away from the city center.

That is because of the poor train service.

There is also a JR Shizuoka Station and a private railway line called Shizutetsu, but the lines run parallel, so depending on where you live, there may not be a station close by,

The drawback is that you have to come to Shizuoka Station to take the train.

I think more people in the prefecture would be able to use the train if the lines were crossed.

People like me, who do not have the nearest station near my place of residence, have to rely exclusively on buses.

Buses are available on many routes

As for buses, there are many routes and frequencies, so it is rarely inconvenient.

For this reason, Shizuoka may be an inconvenient city if you do not own a car.

I would recommend moving to Shizuoka.

As you can see, Shizuoka is a city with many attractions, with the only one being the lack of convenient transportation.

I would highly recommend moving to Shizuoka if you live in a cold region.

I can confidently say that the comfort of the climate is something that people from snow country can understand very well.

You don't have to shovel snow, you can ride trains and buses without delays, and you can go outside without having to wear several layers of heavy clothing...... and enjoy a stress-free experience.
