This time, two adults went to a hot spring resort in Izu.

The name of the inn is Tofuya Resort&Spa-Izu.

Tofuya Resort&Spa-Izu is a resort located in Yoshina Onsen, Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, and has several facilities including ryokan.

The resort reopened in the fall of 2010 and features forested hot springs, riverside rooms, and fine cuisine1.

The resort's grounds are vast, with guest rooms, restaurants, and hot springs scattered throughout the 36,000 tsubo of land along the banks of the Yoshina River, and the landscape is described as a "Japanese-style resort.

The resort's accommodations offer traditional and modern quality spaces where you can feel the Japanese sentiment and atmosphere.

Guests can also enjoy the changing seasons, and the resort is located in a beautiful setting surrounded by sky, river, and greenery.

For access, take a 20-minute bus ride from Shuzenji Station on the Izu Hakone Railway by train, get off at Yoshina Onsen-guchi, and then take a shuttle to the resort.

It is also accessible by car, taking about 40 minutes (38 km) from the Tomei Numazu IC!

Access to Tofuya Resort&Spa-Izu

The inn is located at 98 Yoshina, Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Take a 20-minute bus ride from Shuzenji Station on the Izu Hakone Railway and get off at the Yoshina Onsen Exit, from where a shuttle bus will pick you up.

Tofuya Resort&Spa-Izu is divided into an entrance building, main building (lodging), and west building (bath) on the premises, and is very quiet and recommended for adult travelers.

The rooms are also equipped with baths, but there are two large baths and four outdoor baths that can be used by both men and women, separated by time.

Izu's oldest hot spring

The history of the inn is that it is the oldest hot spring in Izu, having been discovered in the Nara period (710-794).

Famous since ancient times as sacred hot water for children

It has long been said to be a sacred hot spring for children, and there is a story that in the Edo period (1603-1867), the wife of Tokugawa Ieyasu bathed in the spring and later gave birth to a child.

There is also a child-bearing Jizo in the facility, which some people visit to pray for a child.

Dining at Kaiseki Restaurant

Meals are available at an onsite kaiseki restaurant.

The menu features seasonal vegetables and Shizuoka meat and fish, and each dish is individually explained so that diners can enjoy an adult dinner in the evening.

Dine on the terrace in the morning, feeling the nature.

In the morning, you can move to a seat on the terrace side and enjoy Japanese food while enjoying the view of the garden.

The restaurant prepares it like a course meal, not a buffet.

However, since the meal is served with rice accompaniments such as pickles and nori (seaweed), it can be enjoyed without as much fuss as in the evening.

Rice refills were available, and seasonal fruits were served for dessert.

The grilled and simmered dishes were delicious, with the broth and flavors of the ingredients being used to their fullest, without being overdone with strong seasonings or aromas.

There was also a wide selection of sake and cocktails to choose from to match the food.

The staff at the inn was always calm.

As soon as you arrive at the inn, you will receive an explanation of the museum and a booklet with a walking map since the grounds are large.

Tomorrow's weather forecast, room numbers, and meal times were all written in this booklet, so I could make plans while looking at it in my room.

I don't want to take it for granted, but the staff was very helpful in carrying my luggage to my room.

High-grade facilities

As for the grade of the facility, it was high grade in my opinion for the price.

We have stayed at various onsen ryokan on our couple's trips, but I think this inn is so full of the extraordinary that you can forget about your daily life surrounded by nature.

Both men and women could choose the yukata they would wear during their stay at the reception.

Since you choose what you like for each obi and kimono, rather than a set, I think it would be difficult for you to wear the same one as someone else.

There were not many, but they ranged from basic colors to pretty ones, and I think this was one of the best services for women.

Spa on site.

There is a spa store on the premises, as the name of the inn implies.

I was not able to take it because it was fully booked, but they are open at night until 23:00.

My husband experienced it and received bath salts and a message card as a souvenir to commemorate the experience.

I was very surprised by the amenities in the room.

A box of trial sets from Matsuyama Oil and Fat in your room!

When I used the site, a box of trial sets of "Matsuyama Oil and Fat" was donated to the site.

Of course, I received it and went home. Even though this is a trial set, it costs about 700 yen if you buy it.

It's a great feeling to be able to take it home free of charge.

This inn also seems to have Matsuyama Oil and Fat shampoo and Tofuya original body soap, which could be used in the bath or purchased at the store.

There is a coffee maker in the room, and in the mornings my husband and I would talk about our plans for exploring the area over coffee.

One of my favorite memories of this inn is walking the grounds on the morning of the second day.

I went out for a walk after breakfast, but there were too many facilities to go around: Fujimidaira, a waterfall, a museum, a footbath, a bakery, and more.

We were walking toward the bakery and took our time to walk around, admiring the Yoshina River that runs through the property, crossing bridges, and taking pictures as there were no cars coming by.

Unfortunately, we were not able to eat bread at the bakery, but instead were able to relax with the couple on the terrace of the property, which was reserved for private use.

The meal was delicious and palatable, and my husband was delighted.

I will never forget the relieved look on my husband's face as he entered the room and relaxed in his large bed, perhaps tired from the long trip.

Since it was a weekday when we used the site, there was no particular event being held, but the bakery on the premises introduced earlier seems to be a popular spot for enjoying the footbath.

On the way to the inn, there is also the World Heritage Site of Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace, which may be a good place to visit if you have time.

I really recommend this inn for adult travelers, such as couples or women traveling together.

It is fun to stroll around the grounds and there are many different types of baths, so if you have the right budget, I think you can fully enjoy yourself if you can stay for about two nights.
